Staff Director - Jenice Syme
Jenice Syme has a Bachelor of Early Childhood Studies. Jenice has worked in a variety of settings throughout her career - including child care, sessional kindergarten and long-day kindergarten, with 3 and 4 year old groups. She has also had experience with a range of special needs children. Jenice strongly believes in a ‘play-based’ curriculum and actively promotes the benefits of child-initiated learning. She uses observations of the children’s play to plan individual experiences to further enhance the child’s development as a 'whole'. Jenice has a strong focus in her curriculum on building self-esteem, social skills and emotional resilience. 3 Year Old Teacher / Director - Carlene Youl
Carlene Youl has been teaching at Hurstbridge Preschool since 1976. Carlene initially trained as an infant Teacher, teaching Prep and grade 1 children, but started teaching Kindergarten after her own children attended excellent 3 and 4 year old kindergartens. It was during her own children’s kinder experiences that Carlene observed and appreciated that the real foundations for life, the thirst for knowledge and the joy in participation and learning were being formed in the Pre-School years. Her love of the joyous spontaneity of children and the challenge of working with so many diverse personalities and abilities was, she felt, where she as a teacher could use her skills to guide and help the children with their first successful steps to formal education. Carlene has been very fortunate to have the support of her wonderful assistant for her entire career at Hurstbridge Preschool. Both have proved to make a wonderful partnership and provide an excellent program for our 3 year olds. 4 Year Old Assistant - Carole Watson
Carole Watson lives in Wattle Glen and has been with the kinder for over 20 years. All 3 of Carole's children attended the kindergarten. Carole has a wonderful imagination and supports the childrens play beautifully. Carole's bright and happy personality brings a lovely harmony to the kinder. 4 Year Old Assistant - Roz McCormack
Roz has lived in Hurstbridge since 2002 with her 3 (grown-up) children, and loves the Hurstbridge lifestyle! Roz has always wanted to work with children, and completed her Certificate III in Children's Services in 2007. During this study, Roz completed her placement with us here at Hurstbridge Preschool, then later joined us as a permanent staff member in 2009. Roz brings with her fantastic organisational skills as well as a genuine love/care for all of our children. 3 Year Old Group Assistant - Dini Shepherd
Dini Shepherd has been our very special 3-year-old group Assistant since 1976. Dini is a very caring, creative, highly valued colleague and friend who provides exceptional service and support to our Gunmut children, parents, Carlene and the 3 year old program. As a parent of 2 sons who attended the Hurstbridge Preschool, Dini has also been one of the many past parents who made sure their children attended the Preschool by lining up in the then long overnight queues for enrolment day!
